Graduating with The Mind Lab & Tech Futures Lab

We’re so very proud of what you have achieved, and it’s been an absolute pleasure to be part of your journey.

Our graduation ceremonies are designed to be a celebration of you, and we welcome friends & whānau to be part of the day. We recognise and acknowledge the diversity of our graduates and seeing the ways different cultures celebrate achievements is one of the highlights of our graduation ceremonies.

We’ve made sure the formalities are concise, yet appropriately weighted for your achievement, and include plenty of time to get together with your cohort, friends and whānau and take photos afterwards.

Applying to graduate

If you were graduating in person you will need to let us know if you can make it to this new date, or if you were graduating in absentia, you are welcome to change your submission. You need to apply to graduate in order to receive your physical qualification, even if you aren’t graduating in person. Please update your application to graduate by Friday 15th October.

Your ability to graduate will be confirmed once we are able to ratify that all of your programme requirements have been met. If you have any questions, please email

Graduation is a formal celebration, you’re required to wear the correct academic regalia for your qualification, and you can hire your regalia from Academic Dress Hire.

Feel free to also wear traditional wear in honour of your culture or home country, such as a korowai, traditional flower garland or sari.

If you had already ordered regalia for the September ceremony, Academic Dress Hire will hold your booking. If your circumstances have changed please get in touch with them to discuss.

Each graduating student will be able to bring up to 3 people to celebrate with them. Please indicate how many people you are bringing when you apply to graduate, and if this number changes please get in touch. There will be tickets for your family / friends at registration so it’s important we know the correct number.

Visit our FAQ page if you have any further questions.

Graduation and Alert Levels

If we’re in Level 1

Graduation will go ahead as planned.

If we’re in Level 2

Graduation will go ahead, however to ensure we can still proceed with the ceremonies on the day, you will only be allowed to bring one guest to the ceremony.

We know this will be incredibly disappointing, and we apologise – however this will help ensure we are practicing the required level of social distancing and keep you, your friends & whānau, and our staff safe.

If we’re in Level 3 or 4

If we go into Level 3 or 4 the graduation ceremony will regrettably be cancelled and students will be given the option of graduating in absentia.

Let us know your plans!
