Pathways

As well as being a standalone qualification, this Postgraduate Certificate also acts as the first part of the Master of Contemporary Education, providing the first 60 credits of the 120-credit Master’s programme.

Entry Requirements

Educators with either an undergraduate qualification (not necessarily in education) or a Diploma in Education will automatically qualify for entry. Applicants with other qualifications/experience can also be considered.

ADVANCE Education Scholarships are available to cover $1,500 + GST of the tuition fees for all public school educators, leaving just $1,250 + GST to pay.

ADVANCE Plus Scholarships

Structure and Workload

Structure

The programme lasts 32 weeks, divided into two 16-week periods. The first 16 weeks of the programme use a blended learning approach, with a weekly four-hour face-to-face session scheduled outside of school hours (generally 4pm – 8pm), supported by online learning. The face-to-face sessions are held in various locations across New Zealand.

The second 16-week period is fully online, with regular webinars and work-based teacher inquiry projects.

Workload

The study workload outside the time spent at the four-hour workshop sessions is expected to be 6-8 hours per week in your own time. However, given that the programme is applied and work-based, it is expected that many of these hours will be part of your classroom practice.

Course Outline

The Certificate consists of the following four integrated course components:

CISC8110: Digital and Collaborative Learning in Context – 15 credits

Based on contemporary educational theory, policy and research, identify and evaluate the potential of digital and collaborative learning to positively impact on educational practice and outcomes.

CISC8104: Leadership in Digital and Collaborative Learning – 15 credits

Lead innovation in digital and collaborative learning that draws upon concepts of transformational leadership theory, educational theory and research.

Second 16 weeks
Online and work-based study

 

CISC8101: Research and Community Informed Practice – 15 credits

Become a critical reviewer of research relevant to specific education practice or field of expertise. Develop a deeper understanding of literature reviews, and research-informed practice to formulate research questions in a field of study.

CISC8100: Applied Practice in Context – 15 credits

Critically examine and contextualise teaching philosophies and applied practice to develop a critical understanding of how indigenous knowledge and cultural responsiveness, society, ethics, environment and law inform education and teaching.
